Where does Kato Party 411 get their data?

Kato Party 411 uses a random selection process in order to obtain the data that is used to create our messages displayed on campus and around the community.  We gather data using two questionnaires, the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) and a Web Survey created by MSU in collaboration with San Diego State University.  The random selection process draws from a list provided by the Registrar’s Office of each class held on the MSU campus during the spring semester, which includes morning, afternoon and night classes.  All responses are kept completely confidential and student identification is not paired with questionnaire responses.

Random classrooms are selected to total 1,200 MSU students for the NCHA survey, with a goal of 1,000 completed questionnaires.  During the Spring 2007 semester, Kato Party 411 entered 69 classrooms on campus gathering NCHA responses from a total of 904 MSU students.  In the Spring of 2006, data was collected from 72 classrooms consisting of 1,165 students responding to the survey.  Obtaining Web Survey data involves a random selection of 3,000 MSU student e-mail addresses.  The goal for number of respondents is set at 1,000 MSU students however, because of the nature of Electronic Surveys in general, response rates tend to be lower.  In 2007, 765 students responded to the Web Survey and in 2006, 865 MSU students responded.
